The Secret Garden

The Secret Garden is Edinburgh's most atmospheric dining room, illuminated almost entirely by the soft glow of candlelight, and steeped in the storied history of Edinburgh. Diners are enveloped by walls that have borne witness to centuries of Scottish heritage, adorned with opulent tapestries and intricate carved oak, all enhanced by the flickering dance of candle flames.

Upon entering The Secret Garden, guests are transported to a bygone era, immersed in a gothic setting and an air of romance. Renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, captivated by the charm, once asked, "Could this be the prettiest restaurant ever?" The ancient stone doorway, bearing the arms of the Duke of Gordon, Keeper of the Keys to Edinburgh Castle, serves as a portal to the city's illustrious past. Beyond lies a private terrace with topiary filled urns, providing an enchanting outdoor dining experience during the summer months.

The jewel in the crown of The Secret Garden is undoubtedly its resplendent painted ceiling. Reflecting typical Scots vernacular style, it draws inspiration from the famed Rossend Castle ceiling, now housed in the National Museum of Scotland. This masterpiece portrays imagery from the tarot alongside angels with bagpipes, casting an otherworldly and truly unique atmosphere.

In order to maintain the ambiance of our dining rooms, we regret that we are unable to accommodate children under 10 years of age or parties larger than 6 guests.
